Reimagining the traditional cornucopia in a Nordic way- contemporary interpretation of an old botanical tradition.
What if you could take a traditional symbol of autumn abundance and give it a completely new feeling?
In this creative floral workshop, you’ll create your own Nordic-inspired botanical cornucopia using a beautiful natural basket as the base.
The traditional cornucopia, or bőségszaru, represents abundance, harvest and the gifts of nature. We’ll reinterpret this familiar form through a contemporary Nordic lens — using natural textures, muted colours, dried-friendly flowers, grasses, branches, berries and seasonal botanicals.
The result is a relaxed, organic and sculptural piece that feels at home in a modern interior.
We’ll begin by looking at how a traditional cornucopia can be transformed through shape, colour, texture and negative space.
Instead of creating a dense, symmetrical arrangement overflowing with autumn colours, you’ll learn how to create a composition that feels airy and natural.
Some materials will be fresh and selected specifically because they dry beautifully. Others will already be dried or preserved.
This means your cornucopia will continue to evolve after the workshop, gradually becoming a long-lasting botanical decoration.
Each participant will create a Nordic botanical cornucopia using:
The colour palette will move away from traditional bright orange and yellow autumn tones.
Instead, think warm cream, oat, beige, soft brown, muted green, dusty rose, natural grasses and subtle deep autumn accents.
During the workshop, you’ll learn how to:
The cornucopia has traditionally been associated with abundance, harvest and autumn celebrations.
For this workshop, we keep its beautiful symbolic shape but leave behind the heavy, overly decorated style.
It becomes a contemporary interpretation of an old botanical tradition.
The beauty of this workshop is that your arrangement is designed to change naturally.
The flowers and botanicals are chosen with drying in mind, so many elements will gradually dry in place while retaining their shape and character.
As the fresh materials dry, the arrangement becomes more permanent and can remain part of your home throughout the autumn and winter.
At the end of the workshop, you’ll take home your own handmade Nordic botanical cornucopia.
It will be a one-of-a-kind arrangement created from your own combination of flowers, grasses, branches and natural materials.
You’ll also take home the techniques you learned — so you can work with seasonal botanicals and create natural compositions at home throughout the year.
The cornucopia itself can also be reused and restyled for another season.
